We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. (Hebrews 6:19)
Imagine a huge ship parked in a beautiful blue harbor. It rocks gently back and forth floating atop the undulating water. All of the sudden a storm rises up and overtakes the once peaceful harbor. Mountainous waves crash against the sides of the ship with great force and the angry black clouds above pour out their fury in rain. Thunder echoes across the harbor and lightning flashes continuously. The ship rocks and rolls, tossed over the waves– sprays of water flying every which way as they collide with the ship.
But the ship doesn’t move from its place. It is anchored securely.
As you picture this huge ship anchored securely in the harbor– unable to be moved, doesn’t it fill your heart with joy to see that we are anchored in the same way by the God who saves our souls? Our hope in Him holds us firm and secure when the storms of life rage all around.
What a picture. What a promise.
